The petition to have a town vote on the UV Library was received by the town board with more than enough signatures. Even though it was December, with limited time, those circulating the petitions had no difficulty obtaining signatures. Many residents were eager to sign it, despite their party affiliation. The petition was reviewed by lawyers for the town board. Once a member of the fundraising committee for the library agreed to pay the lease of $1.00 per year for 30 years, the lawyers declared the rest of the petition null and void.
The town board did revise their resolution, though, stipulating that no town funds will be used to build the library
