UV Dems Speak Out

Vote “No” on the UV Library Proposition

“Shall the town of Union Vale own and operate a Public Library?”

Why are we recommending a “no” vote?

Unnecessary- If we resumed paying our annual contract (about $100,00) to the Mid Hudson Library System, we would have FULL ACCESS to our excellent and conveniently located neighboring libraries (Beekman, LaGrange, and Millbrook).

Expensive– To build our own library will cost 1.5 million dollars or more. In addition, there is currently around $250,000 in the town’s annual budget to fund the yearly operating costs of the library. This is far more than paying a contract to MHLS.

Unkept Promises– The residents were told that the cost of building and equipping the library would come from donations. However, according to the UV Library’s most recent IRS FORM 990 EZ (covering six years of activity from 2018-2023), no voluntary funds have been donated.

Deceitful Tactics– In 2021, a non-partisan group of Union Vale residents created a ballot question regarding library services, however the issue was confused by misinformation disseminated by former Supervisor Maas. Most residents who have spoken up at meetings, written letters, or had conversations with local residents running for office are firmly against wasting time and resources to build a library that is unnecessary and will most likely see little use.
